Five coffee stops in Williamsburg

Williamsburg is a popular, trendy neighborhood with a lively, youthful feel.
This area is a mecca for foodies, featuring lots of coffee roasteries housed in its converted warehouses, the Smorgasburg food market on the waterfront in the summertime and plenty of exciting restaurants. It’s also home to a range of vintage shops, art galleries, music venues and McCarren Park on its northern edge.

Here are five great coffee shop picks.

Blue Bottle Coffee Williamsburg
76 North 4th Street
Through the glass exterior on North 4th, the newest addition to the Blue Bottle empire - with its familiar coastal California aesthetic - sinks down from the street, providing an impeccable view of the generously sized location. Inside, a growing line of coffee lovers snakes through the curved, motion driven architecture. The ability to select from a seasonal variety of beans for pour overs and the wide array of preparations on full display across the counter provide an experience of ordering to match the delights of the coffee itself. However, the location’s streamlined entry and exit points, combined with an absence of Wi-Fi, do create more of a takeaway vibe, but there is also plenty of seating, so soak in the scene while you can.

Devoción Williamsburg
69 Grand Street
You can enjoy the worlds artisan finest Colombian coffees here at this sprawling cafe, as Devoción sources and purchases all their coffee from Colombia. The shop reflects this focus with its spectacular space, outfitted with its roastery in the front where you can see the roasters hard at work. The main room is an impressive chamber, bursting with sun from a center skylight. The space is huge, with plenty of tables and deliciously sunken-in couches, accented by an incredible living wall, with impressive plants all native to Colombia.

JANE Motorcycles
36 Whythe Avenue
Jane Motorcycles is the one-stop-shop for all of your bike (and coffee!) needs. Serving up Counter Culture Coffee, a staple Brooklyn roaster, and all the motorcycle related attire one could hope for, Jane Motorcycles is truly a gem in the Williamsburg coffee scene. Grab your cup of joe in the front before browsing the gear. The well-designed shop is bright, airy, and easy on the eye. Whether you’re a biker or not, ride on in for the coffee alone; it’s well worth the visit.

Sweatshop
232 Metropolitan Avenue
Australian-owned Sweatshop is full of things that’ll make you smile, from the big neon Sweatshop sign to the ‘Death Before Decaf’ tote bags, to the hand-painted stool-tops. Smiles continue when you start sipping brews from the sleek La Marzocco espresso machine. The single-origin espresso from Counter Culture Coffee changes every one or two weeks, and latte and macchiato boast exquisite latte art. Food is simple but well executed, with healthy Aussie-style breakfasts giving way at lunch to ‘jaffles’(toasted sandwiches). In the words of co-owner Luke, ‘We do what we do back home and hope that people dig it.’ Full seats both indoors and out suggest they do.

Toby's Estate Williamsburg
125 North 6th Street
Williamsburg wasn't complete until Toby's came to town. Everything on the menu (both beverage and food) is worth making the trip for, but go for the bright, single-origin espresso, straight up. Trust us, there really is a difference between this and the house blend espresso, especially fresh as the beans are roasted in front of you. Toby's near-flawlessness extends to the friendly, efficient service and the stylish, comfortable, loft-reminiscent design - which is often mobbed with laptops. Before you go, you also have to try the signature flat white, so smooth and rich it takes you to another world.
